A Tinkerbell from the shop front

When we were walking in the city  she saw this little masquerade Tinkerbell she loved so much that she asked me to make it for her Birthday. This was what she had actually wanted, but I ended up making the previous two cakes for my satisfaction........

I was tired of planning the family party and was going to cheat and used the uncut cake from her actual birthday. But in my heart , what she had first asked had stuck  and wanted to somehow fulfill her wish .... hence the third cake that my darling daughter. ....... A Tinkerbell Doll cake ( All edible except for the internal support).

A Doll for my Little Princess.......

As Doting mum, it has become a usual norm in our house for me to end up making two cakes for my kids birthday, one for the actual birthday and one for the party ( if they happen to come separately, this time there is a small party for the family next week so there is one more cake to come !!). This is the first of the two cakes I made for my darling daughter who is so into dolls and princesses now.

This is my third take on dolls, I did make a doll based cakes for my daughter's first birthday. It was a Doll dressed as bo-peep for her actual birthday and two Barbie dolls dressed in a traditional Half Saree and  a Ghagra Choli for the Party.

Images and details available on my previous posts; First Birthday Party   and  Memories: The making of my barbie doll cake

At that time it was because I wanted to make it for my daughter, this time around it was because my daughter wanted it :-).......and Ahh.... she loved it , I think ?????

I always wanted to make an  ALL edible Doll cake, more challenging me thinks, so here goes my first attempt figurine and all. The upper body is entirely hand sculpted using gumpaste and I have seen quite a few really successful beautiful ones. I sincerely hope mine is at least close to being one of those too :-). Thank you so much for looking and for all your lovely support.

Memories : The Making of my first Barbie Doll Cakes.......

This is not a tutorial, just photos of the different elements at different stages of the cakes I made that week in 2011 soon after I started out on my cake journey.  Recently unearthed these images and thought I will share them with you :-)

It was Dolls overload and I don't think my daughter even appreciated it considering it was her first birthday, It was more for me than her ha...ha :-) .Three Dolls .... One for her actual birthday and Two for her birthday party.

Ended up making a Ben 10 cake for my son too so that he doesn't feel left out and
A cake for my Dad with him and his grand kids sitting on a sofa ( my first figurines, to tell you the truth they didn't look that great !!) which came two days after my daughter's. So very glad that I made one for my Dad because that became the LAST cake I will ever make for him .  I miss him so much!!!

Full detail of the birthday Party can be found in one of my first posts on my blog : 1st Birthday Party

1st Birthday Party...

I ended up doing quite a bit for this event, I didn't know where to start and how I did it.
Couldn't book a hall  on the actual birthday so had to make two cakes. I went all girly...girly doll/Princess crazy for this birthday

1) Cake for the actual birthday

With my daughter's hand print on icing and a doll dressed like Bo Peep sitting on the cake. The flowers had the stitched on effect like on a quilt.

2) Centre Pieces for the table (22 Nos.)
The head and hands were done with fondant/gumpaste. Wasn't very happy with these. It was tedious towards the end  (and got some help with the hands and dress )that I didn't end up taking pics of it set up!. Took too much on I think and didn't do this properly.

3) Cake for our lovely son for the party so that he doesn't feel left out

Used one of  picture from his books as reference to create a Bas Relief effect using gumpaste. This was a butter cake.

4) Cake for my daughter for the Party

This was my first 1st birthday cake...... the first one that had a structure (3 layers. First time I hammered a Dowel into the cake was heart stopping, I was seriously praying, next day was the party with no backup plan)...didn't know whether the cake was going to be enough for everybody, I was so stressed till I got it to the hall( I got an old highchair box to transport it....IT was bloody HEAVY(excuse my language). To top it all off I had covered the board also with fondant.....it looked good but carrying without damaging it was not easy). I wanted to dress the dolls in traditional attire. So the pink one is wearing a Ghagra choli the other one is my version of a Half saree, with lotus in a pond, pearl in a shell candle holder(getting the candle into that round shape and painting it  to look like a pearl was a pain). All done with fondant and gumpaste. Did both butter and chocolate cakes and layered it with buttercream

All these + arranging the party( designing the invitation, booking the hall, party bags, entertainment, food/drinks etc...) EXHAUSTED by the end of it ......... You all must be thinking I am crazy...... maybe I am....but I do function a lot better under stress most of the time ...that's what most mothers do anyway.....hmm. To tell you the truth, all the praises for the cakes, I got at the end of the party made up for everything I went through. I would also like to thank all those who helped with the event( if they ever happen to read my blog). My Hubby, Dad , kids and family were the champion in all this. If they hadn't been accommodating and understanding of my grumpy self, I wouldn't have been able achieve all this....Will I do this again???I don't know maybe for their 21st....I need lots of time to recover!!! ;-).  But then for their 21st I don't think they would want their old mother to arrange a boring party for them..... so I think I can escape.......;-)
