Mothers Morning Tea

I got invited to a Morning Tea for all the  mothers at my Kid's school and decided to make a quick cake to take along. First time I tried the Tulips and had to have an early start to the day to finish off the cake ;-)

Bows , Ribbons and Roses : A 60th Birthday Cake

The Cake Gods and Goddesses were conspiring against me with this one....First I couldn't get any ideas on what to do 'cos my head was full of 'DIY mini Home Renovation' ideas and starting a cake just wouldn't stick...then I started running short of time and stressing out  and by then an idea and me were  just  poles apart ...... then it was the plumber with our old kitchen sink ( The kitchen is still unusable 'cos  we have to do bit of DIY waterproof painting and tiling etc..) .......then  it was a Positive parenting course I had to attend yesterday...... etc and finally when I was 3/4 way there the lights goes off  at 5pm (winter is starting so it gets dark early) but there was a silver lining in this only a fuse had gone lose and power points were still working ....so I used a couple of table lamps to finish off the cake. One of our friends came and fixed the fuse problem for us. So nice of him.

Took some photos of the cake with my hubby going off in the background about how late we are, we will be the last ones, they will be waiting etc..... ;-), so don't blame me if the photos don't look that good!!!

He was right.........We were the last ones actually.... most of them had actually finished dinner too .....OOPS

With all that stumbling blocks... this is what I finally made:  A full Vegetarian Cake with painted ribbons , bows and fabric roses for a lovely Aunt very very close to my heart......................

Puzzle Cake

A cake for a very special and dear Uncle. A guy cake which did not need elaborate details. It was done at the same time as my niece's birthday cake.

Little Things a Girl Dreams of.......

Making this cake was an experience and a half......I had promised a cake for one of my special nieces  back in August last year. While trying to gather information on what she likes from her mom, I was told that she might like a Jewellery box.....voila why didn't I think of that. So it was decided and dusted back in September that I was going to make a Jewellery box chocolate cake with purple in it (' cos my niece likes purple of course!! and the chocolate cake 'cos her Mom likes it!!! :-)) .

Starting this was the biggest hurdle for me, after a personal loss and a holiday, just couldn't get myself to do anything. Finally I forced myself to begin thinking that I had to do this for my niece, who ( I was told ) for some unknown reason thinks that I am the Queen of Designs and I spit out all these wonderful cakes just like that!!!. Well even if I am not..... I have to at least try or pretend to be ONE in her EYES!!!. So this is what I have come up with and hopes she likes my effort ;-)   P.S. I also had a bit of a battle with RAIN which was not very helpful with the DRYING.

This cake is supposed to be a Trinket box, Jewellery box, Miniature Perfume bottles, Pieces of jewellery and a Wrist Watch placed on a table for the little LADY she is going to be.......

Iron Man Birthday Comic Strip

I was asked to make an Iron man cake by my little nephew, he was well organised, he brought home a big book on the Avengers to show me just in case I didn't know who "IRON MAN" was!. This was three or four months back. I had to have a think of this and finally decided on a comic strip..... This is the rough version

A journey back into nostalgia. Making this piece brought back so many fond old memories(These memories are more pronounced when there is a loss in the family.) ......when comics were the norm of the day for the kids back then and I used to bug my parents to buy Tin Tin, Super heroes, Phanthom etc... I don't know whether kids still read comic books these days...... but here goes my attempt.

Due to unforeseen circumstances I was able to make only the top part (decoration) of the cake. The actual cake will be done by my Sister-in-law and these decoration will be placed on top. Once the cake is done , will post  a picture.

Pearly Painted Vintage Silhouette Anniversary Cake

A cake done for a special couple. This was my first attempt at painting roses on fondant. Whether they look like roses or little pieces of reddish pink BLOB  ;-) is for you guys to decide. This is the second time I  have done a silhouette on a cake. Lines are a bit better than the first one.

It is a vegetarian chocolate cake with buttercream covered with fondant and  gumpaste accents. Start to finish it roughly took about three days to do.

First day went with planning and doing the silhouette frame , Second day with baking the cake and covering with buttercream and fondant. Started the painting and assembling the next day.

This is with breaks in between to look after wailing kids, answering their questions, shouting 'don't do this', don't touch that' 'don't fight' , chauffeuring and preparing breakfast, lunch & dinner ;-).
